Composition notes for cadae.mp3 Assigning pitches from the C minor scale to each of the first sixteen digits of pi, I used the website Visualizing Music: A Model of Harmony (http://geocities.com/yaaarrrgg/music/index.htm), to play and record this melodic pattern. I captured gif images from the resulting staff, converted them to bitmaps, then used Coagula to convert them to wav files. In SawCutter I assigned sixteen notes from the C minor scale and recorded/saved the resulting loop. Finally, I typed the first five digits into SayIt, setting the pitch parameter to 314, speed to 31, modulation to 3141, and cascade to 3. I processed the individual sounds in SoundForge, and composed them in Vegas. To arrive at the title, I established a simple number-to-alphabet code, so that “31415” became “cadae.” Glenn Bach
